Registered Membership

Registered Professional members of IDAS have achieved a combination of seven years design education and professional experience and successfully completed the National Council for Interior Design Qualifications (NCIDQ) examination. Individuals who were grandfathered into the Association may also be included in the membership category.


A. Professional Recognition

  • Enhances a member’s professional status; Registered Professional members of IDAS may exclusively use the legislated title and designation ‘Interior Designer’.
  • Lobbying/ liaison with the Government of Saskatchewan in the areas of MOU, education and legislation.
  • Liaison with allied design and related professionals in the Province of Saskatchewan;
    IDAS has representatives involved with NCIDQ, Construction Specifications Canada, Lakeland College, Saskatchewan Construction Association, Saskatchewan Construction Panel, Design Council of Saskatchewan, U of R Senate and U of S Senate.

IDAS is a member association in the Interior Designers of Canada, this membership affords the following benefits

  • IDC, with the support of its seven provincial association members, provides a forum for the unified voice of Canadian interior designers, so that the profession continues to grow and receive recognition and respect, locally, nationally and internationally from government industry and the public sector.
  • Being named on the Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Government that allows IDAS members to bid on federal contacts
  • Participation in NCIDQ and CIDA (FIDER); bodies that set national standards for interior design education and qualifications.
  • Liaison with the Interior Design Education Council (IDEC)
  • Use of designation ‘IDC’

B. Insurance Package

  • Professional Liability Error and Omission Insurance is a requirement of membership in IDAS. You will receive the opportunity to participate in the IDC group insurance program at a greatly reduced cost, as compared to buying individually. Minimum Insurance coverage includes $250,000 for liability and $250,000 for errors & omissions. Automobile and home packages are also available.

C. Professional Fee Structure

  • Receive guidelines in setting professional fee rates and associated scope of work from the suggested fee schedule

D. Professional & Educational Development

  • In 2006, IDAS implemented a mandatory Professional Development Program. Professional development and educational sessions are offered on a regular basis in the form of seminars, conferences and lunch and learns that may award accredited continuing education units.
  • Gain CEU (Continuing Educational Units) at reduced rates to further your educational learning. Access to programs offered by our industry partners. The variety of learning opportunities are endless.
  • Gain education and product knowledge from monthly “Lunch & Learns”.
  • Meet with other designers regularly to exchange information and processes.

E. Direct Membership Benefits

  • Eligible to use an IDAS stamp for design drawings.
  • Opportunities to network at continuing education seminars, community and social functions.
  • Opportunity to list on our provincial website.
  • Receive a membership package with a personalized membership plaque, information binder and association directory
  • Receive yearly updates to the members and resource affiliate directories
  • Receive quarterly IDAS newsletters – the newsletter is IDAS’s conduit of information to members on association activities, trends, issues, and events.

  • Opportunity to affect association practices by voicing your opinion & voting on motions.
  • Opportunity to participate in Executive and Committee positions which support IDAS and offer an opportunity to network.
  • Opportunity to attend the Annual General Meetings of the IDAS.

Provisional Membership

Provisional members of IDAS have graduated from a recognized interior design program, are actively involved in the field of interior design and acquiring work experience necessary for the National Council for Interior Design Qualifications examination.

Once the seven year combined education and experience requirement has been met, a provisional member has four years to successfully complete the NCIDQ exam.

D. Support for Council of Interior Design Qualifications Examination

  • IDAS offers a mentorship program – A registered or retired member of IDAS is matched with a provisional member to work with and advise on experience, career objectives and any issue of concern.
  • IDAS recommends recent graduates participate in the Interior Design Experience Program (IDEP) as they complete their work experience. This program is administered by NCIDQ and is a monitored and documented program that ensures a broad base of training and experience or learning.
  • IDAS committees in Regina and Saskatoon offer support through co-ordination of study sessions, availability of educational material and review of exam qualifications and application submissions to NCIDQ
  • IDAS is a voting member of NCIDQ

Student Membership

A student member of IDAS must be a part or full time student attending a College or University that offers a certificate, diploma or degree in Interior Design and will ultimately be eligible to become NCIDQ certified.

A. Recognition

  • Student members of IDAS may use designation ‘Student IDAS’
  • Establish a valuable affiliation with other designers and design associations both provincially and nationally.
  • Gain knowledge and ideas from IDAS newsletter, events, activities and website.

B. Professional & Educational Development

  • Attend CEU (Continuing Educational Units) at reduced rates to further your educational learning.
  • Gain education and product knowledge from monthly “Lunch & Learns”.
